Biography

Councillor Doug Wright

Sechelt has been my home since 2005. With an engineering background, I have worked in private industry as supervisor, production manager and plant manager.

In 1980, I started work as Superintendent Facilities for Edmonton Public Schools. I moved on to Richmond School District as Director Facilities and then on to the University of British Columbia. In these positions, I was responsible for administration and personnel management, for new construction, renovations, maintenance, custodial, transportation, leasing, rentals, utilities, energy conservation, and security. In addition, I was part of negotiations, joint use agreements, union liaisons, strategic planning, decentralization, and budget committees. This work included management of operational budgets up to $18 million and capital budgets up to $65 million annually. These positions were accountable, and reported to School Board Trustees through the organization’s Superintendent.

Upon coming to Sechelt, I held a similar position with School District 46.

My background has created a solid groundwork for budgeting, effective management, fiscal responsibility, cooperative planning, decision making in an open and honest manner and support for the citizen/customer base.

For me, fiscal responsibility is vital in any community. It is my intent to continue the focus on drawing businesses to Sechelt that will provide the services that meet the needs of our population.
