Participation is easy by using any of the following methods of engagement.

Official Community Plan (OCP) Amendment - Spectrum of Care

The population of our country and our community is aging.  Our community is also home to persons with special needs.   As residents age or their abilities change demands increase for housing and care options to meet a range of situations.  Many are able to live independently in their own homes throughout their lives.  Others will need additional support or specialized accommodation and care.  The ‘spectrum of care’ is outlined as follows:

Sechelt’s Official Community Plan (OCP) is the framework that guides future development and well-being of the District.  Our OCP could be expanded to set out policies or land use designations for all of the different types of care facilities included in the spectrum. To ensure our community is able to have the facilities that offer the full ‘spectrum of care’ to our residents, we are drafting an OCP amendment.This amendment is required for the proper review and processing of facility development applications, including the one Sechelt has received from Trellis Seniors Services for the Silverstone Care Facility.

We are seeking public input about this change, along with consulting related groups and agencies for their comments.  Our goal is to ensure that residents’ views are considered and the amendment remains consistent with the vision for our community. 

You are encouraged to complete our online survey on this subject.  You can also submit your input or ask for more information at any time, by emailing or by sending written submissions to the Development Services Department at the District Office.

An Open House where you can ask questions and share input on the subject will be held at the Seaside Centre from 4 to 6pm on September 7th.  Also on that date, an e-Town Hall at the District Office will be live streamed on YouTube at 7pm.  This is a chance to make your views known, whether you attend in person or participate electronically (see the column to the left for details).  Additional consultation events may be added.
