If a property within the District of Sechelt has delinquent taxes owing against it, the District will begin proceedings to recover those costs through its annual tax sale. The tax sale is a public auction held each year on the last Monday of September. At the time of a tax sale a list of all properties for auction is available from the District.
By statute, a Collector of a municipality must offer for sale properties that have delinquent taxes outstanding. Taxes are considered to be delinquent if they are unpaid for three years.
Delinquent taxes are subject to interest as detailed in section 245 and 246 of the Community Charter. Properties with delinquent taxes will be sold on September 25, 2017 unless the delinquent taxes with interest are paid.
