Infrastructure Profile

Municipal Engineering includes road works, pedestrian/cycling facilities, traffic management, sanitary sewerage,  storm water management, and street lighting. Engineering personnel assess the demands on the District’s infrastructure and are responsible for the design and implementation of the capital construction program that provides replacement and improvements to the District’s infrastructure. Engineering staff also review the engineering requirements for property development as required by the Subdivision and Development Control Bylaw. The design and construction of the built environment must be guided by a vision of the District’s future, the Official Community Plan, and attention to public safety and environmental concerns.

While the Engineering Department plans, designs, and oversees construction of new roads and related underground services, it is the Public Works department that ensures these roads and services are maintained at high standards.
