The District of Sechelt is pleased to announce the appointment of two Community Planners.

Aaron Thompson, who joined the District as a Development Planner in February 2016, has been promoted to a Community Planner to better reflect the additional complexity of the work he has been performing.  In addition to his planning role with the District, Arron has also worked as a Planner with the Village of Pouce Coupe, B.C.  Aaron is a graduate of the University of Northern British Columbia with a Bachelor of Planning Degree, majoring in Northern and Rural Community Planning.

Marina Stjepovic will join the District’s Planning and Development Department as a Community Planner on October 10, 2017.  Marina has held a variety of temporary positions with the Sunshine Coast Regional District, including a recent assignment as a Planner. She previously worked as an Environmental Coordinator for the Township of Langley and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Geography (Environmental Studies).

“Staffing of these positions is a major step toward building a Planning and Development team that can update the District’s planning bylaws, policies and procedures in addition to processing the current record number of development applications and inquiries,” said Doug Stewart, Interim Director of Planning and Development.

The District is also looking to fill its Director of Planning and Development position.  Interested candidates are encouraged to review the career opportunity posting on, which closes October 22, 2017.  Once this position is filled, Mr. Stewart will continue on in his role as the District’s Director of Corporate and Financial Services.
