Volunteer Members Needed for the Board of Variance

Wanted! Volunteer members for the Board of Variance.

The District of Sechelt invites Sechelt residents to apply to volunteer to join the Board of Variance for a three-year term that serves without remuneration.

The Board of Variance functions independently from the District of Sechelt Council with the principal function to provide independent consideration from applicants seeking a minor variance from provisions of municipal bylaws.

Applications to the Board of Variance may be made where compliance with certain bylaws (zoning, subdivision servicing) may cause undue hardship and where the requested variance is minor.

Examples of the Board’s jurisdiction include allowing a structural alteration or addition to a non-conforming building or a variance respecting the siting, size, or dimensions of a building.

Preferred candidates will have an interest and/or expertise in community planning, environmental issues, social planning, or urban design.

Council will consider appointing members to the Board of Variance that best represent the community with consideration given to geographic representation, occupation, related experience/ expertise and demonstrated community service.
