The District of Sechelt awarded $82,766 in COVID-19 Safe Restart Community grants to 11 local non-profits and charities that serve vulnerable populations. These grants will help cover expenses related to social service programs such as meal delivery programs, a community garden, and bereavement counselling.
“These grants are intended to benefit the most vulnerable in our community,” said Mayor Siegers. “We know that COVID-19 disproportionately affects those who are economically disadvantaged, so we are pleased to support the local organizations that run food banks, community kitchens, and other support services.”
In 2020, the District of Sechelt was awarded a $2.5 million grant from the Canada-B.C. Safe Restart Fund to deal with increased operating costs and lower revenue due to COVID-19. The District of Sechelt council allocated $100,000 of this funding to local non-profit and charitable organizations that provide core community services to vulnerable populations.
A second grant intake will be offered to distribute the remaining $17,234 in funding. The deadline to apply is Monday October 18, 2021.
