FortisBC, Fresh Air Cinema, the District of Sechelt, and the Sunshine Coast Credit Union are bringing back drive-in movies to Sechelt for 2021. Across the province, Fortis BC and Fresh Air Cinema have been bringing communities together and raising money for local charities with their outdoor movie events. Together they are making a difference for food banks, hospitals, non-profit groups and mental health associations, all while doing their best to provide to families in need in the wake of COVID-19. All proceeds from the Sechelt drive-in events will be donated to the Arrowhead Clubhouse program of Sunshine Coast Community Services Society.
“Last year’s drive-in movie events were very popular with local families,” said Siobhan Smith, the Arts Culture and Communications Coordinator for the District of Sechelt. “We are thankful to our sponsors Fortis BC and the Sunshine Coast Credit Union for making it possible to offer this event again this year.”
This year the Hackett Park event will feature a retro screening of Dirty Dancing (1987) on Friday September 10th, and the animated hit Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse (2018) on Saturday September 11th. The gates will open at 7:00pm, and the movie will begin at approximately 8:30pm. This is a by-donation event, however; tickets are still required. Tickets go on sale online via Eventbrite, Friday August 27th at 6pm; the suggested donation is $20 per vehicle. Direct links to the events can be found on the District of Sechelt’s Facebook page and the sechlet.ca website.
Arrowhead Clubhouse is a place where people living with mental illness on the Sunshine Coast can come to learn skills, get support and build relationships in a safe, stigma-free environment.
The Drive-in events will follow all guidelines provided by the Provincial Health Authority and are subject to change as social distance guidelines change.
