Employment Opportunity - Equipment Operator 1

Applicants must have Grade 12 (or equivalent); 1 year of experience in general laboring; and hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with air and heavy trailer endorsements or a Class 1 Driver’s Licence. Applicants must have hands-on experience with the operation and maintenance of power and hand tools; the ability to exert, sustain and repeat physical and mental actions necessary to complete tasks; and work under conditions requiring strength, endurance and focused attention in all types of weather. Applicants must have a professional, responsive, and positive work attitude; the ability to react quickly and remain calm in stressful situations; and the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully one–on-one or in a group environment. This is a unionized position within the BCGEU, open to both male and female applicants. Salary for the position is Grid Level 6, $27.52 - $30.58 per hour (2020 rates). Hours of work are 37.5 hours per week. This position involves shiftwork, including weekends, from November to March for snow and ice removal.

Employment Opportunity - Wastewater Chief Operator

Educational qualifications include a Grade 12 (or equivalent); BC EOCP Wastewater Treatment Operator Level IV, or Level III with the experience and ability to reach Level IV within one year (or inter-provincial equivalent); BC EOCP certification in wastewater collection (or inter-provincial equivalent); confined space training, workplace hazardous materials information system training and transportation of dangerous goods training; thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, SCADA systems, laboratory equipment, testing standards and methods; be proficient with spreadsheets, data manipulation and interpretation; and demonstrate analytical thinking, strong communication, leadership, team building and supervisory skills in a unionized environment. Post-secondary education in water and/or wastewater technology would be considered an asset. The successful candidate must be competent in Microsoft office and technical report writing; demonstrate a professional, responsible, positive work attitude, interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as a team member; react to and manage emergency situations and exert, sustain and repeat physical and mental actions necessary to complete tasks and work under conditions requiring strength, endurance and focused attention in all types of weather; and a strong commitment to service. This is a permanent full-time (37.5 Hours per week) Union Position with the BCGEU. The position offers an attractive benefits package as provided within the collective agreement.

News Release - Rockwood Lodge receives heritage grant for renovations

Rockwood Lodge, Sechelt’s only designated heritage building, is about to get a major facelift thanks to a significant grant from Heritage BC and the Province of British Columbia. Last fall the District applied for a grant for $234,600 to replace the cedar roof, paint the exterior, refurbish the hardwood floors, install an accessible washroom, and complete the work in the kitchen to make it fully commercial. Today Heritage BC and the Province of BC announced this project will be 100% funded through the grant program.

Applicants must have Grade 12 (or equivalent); 2 years’ experience in general construction labouring; the ability to safely and competently operate a variety of garden and power tools, tractors, mowers and watering equipment; and hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Applicants must have hands-on experience with the operation and maintenance of power and hand tools; the ability to exert, sustain and repeat physical and mental actions necessary to complete tasks; and the ability to work under conditions requiring strength, endurance and focused attention in all types of weather. Applicants must have a professional, responsive, and positive work attitude; the ability to react quickly and remain calm in stressful situations; and the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully one–on-one and in a group environment. This is a unionized casual position within the BCGEU and is open to all applicants. Salary for the position is set at Grid Level 4, $25.04 (2020 rates) per hour plus 9.8% of the straight-time pay in lieu of scheduled vacations, paid holidays, health and welfare benefits and other paid leave.
