The District of Sechelt is in the process of adopting a new smoking control bylaw. The smoking bylaw will apply to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, vaping and cannabis. The proposed bylaw first came before Council in 2016 and was followed by a community online survey. The proposed bylaw reflects the comments received through the survey and also reflects new Provincial legislation regarding smoking and vaping control.

The two advanced voting opportunities saw fewer numbers this year than in 2014. There were of 968 electors who cast ballots on October 10 and 16, 2018 however there were 1,093 ballots cast in the 2014 advanced voting

The District of Sechelt is asking residents to keep their cats indoors for the protection of birds, the safety of the cat and to be a good neighbor. After consideration of a cat bylaw, Council decided education was a more appropriate tactic for handling cat concerns than tickets.

October 10, 2018 was the first voting opportunity for Sechelt voters and numbers were down over 2014. On the first advanced voting day in 2014 there were 391 electors but yesterday 273 electors turned out.

A new Community Associations Policy was approved by Council at the October 3, 2018 Regular Council meeting.

October 2, 2018 - The search for a solution to the problems at Seawatch can and should continue, but the District of Sechelt can only do that within the proper bounds of responsible government. The Seawatch subdivision was designed, built, marketed, and sold by a private company. The District of Sechelt cannot accept the argument that when a private sector venture falters, the cost should be borne by the Sechelt taxpayers.
