News Release - Sunshine Coast User Friendly Trail Guide


The District of Sechelt, the Town of Gibsons and the Sunshine Coast Regional District partnered in the release of a User-Friendly Trail Guide today. This joint project was funded by the Age Friendly BC and UBCM, 2018 Age-Friendly Communities Grant Program. This joint project provides information on trails that are the flattest and easiest to navigate for those with mobility challenges. Information on each trail including photos, amenities and elevation profile are included in the guide. Those details are presented in such a way in the guide that users are able to make decisions for themselves as to which trails are best suited for them depending on their own physical limitations.

News Release - Hackett Park upgrades


The southwest baseball diamond in Hackett Park will close the week of April 22nd for 4-6 weeks due to upgrades to the diamond. The diamond is located at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Dolphin Street.

News Release - Sechelt Visitor Information Centre reopens


The Sechelt Visitor Information Centre will reopen under the management of Sunshine Coast Tourism (SCT) on April 17, 2019. The hours during the month of April will be Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm and closed Monday and Tuesday. From May to September the centre will be open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm.

News Release - Pilot project to reduce human and wildlife interactions


Sechelt, BC – The District of Sechelt is pleased to announce a partnership with local community advocate and realtor, Tony Browton to pilot an innovative tool to improve citizen safety in parks and trails. The District of Sechelt has been taking measures to reduce conflicts between citizens and wildlife with the installation of bear-proof garbage bins in most municipal parks and trails. The next step in this safety campaign is to safely frighten the animals away from human only areas. Bear aware and other safety campaigns advocate making noise to frighten wildlife so the District is partnering with Mr. Browton, to install wireless, micro-resonation units (MRU) in Kinnikinick Park as a pilot project.
