There is an identified need for improved child care on the Sunshine Coast. To gain a better understanding of the current situation and to address local needs and priorities, we are working on a
Child Care Plan for the Sunshine Coast.
The Plan will:
- Define the nature and extent of child care constraints
- Identify emerging trends and best practices
- Confirm where and what kind of child care spaces exist, where spaces are needed, and by whom
- Identify opportunities for addressing constraints and needs
The consultant is working with the community and our Steering Committee (representatives from the District of Sechelt, Town of Gibsons, Sunshine Coast Regional District, Vancouver Coastal Health, School District 46, Sunshine Coast Child Care Resource and Referral, and Sunshine Coast Credit Union).
A comprehensive action plan with recommendations and direction on future opportunities is expected in early 2020.
This work is being undertaken with funding support from the provincial Community Child Care Planning Program via the Union of BC Municipalities.
