Important Information Regarding Office Changes due to COVID-19

Property Tax Notices have been mailed May 27 and May 28, 2020.  Electronic Tax Notices will be sent Thursday, May 28, 2020. If you have not received your Tax Notice by June 4, 2020 please contact us to have a notice reprinted.

For everyone’s health and to avoid long lines, please avoid paying in person. In person service will be limited. Starting June 1, 2020, come by in person between 9am and noon Monday to Friday.

Updated Penalty Dates for 2020:

For Residential Properties, payments not received by 4:30 on July 2, 2020 are subject to a 5% penalty. Payments not received by October 1, 2020 are subject to a further 5% penalty.

For Commercial Properties, payments not received by 4:30 on October 1, 2020 are subject to a 5% penalty. Payments not received by December 1, 2020 are subject to a further 5% penalty.

By Internet or Telephone Banking
Contact your financial institution for set up details on your account. Sechelt is listed as a "Payee" for property taxes as "Sechelt - District Taxes". When entering your account number use all 11 digits of your roll # located on the top right corner of your tax notice. All payments must be received by 4:30pm, July 2nd, 2019 to avoid penalty.

WARNING:  It takes a few business days to process property tax payments made directly to your financial institution.  To avoid a 5% penalty, the payment must be received at the District of Sechelt by 4:30pm Tuesday, July 2, 2019 so ensure online payments are made several days in advance!

24 Hour Payment Drop Box
 A secure payment drop box is located by the front doors of the Municipal Hall, 5797 Cowrie Street.  The drop slot is located at the Cowrie Street entrance, not the library entrance to the Municipal Hall building.

Place your cheque and/or properly completed and signed Home Owner Grant application, if eligible, in an envelope and drop it in the box.  No cash please. We will process your payment promptly each morning (Monday to Friday). If you would like a receipt mailed to you, please enclose your entire Property Tax Notice.

By Courier
 Payments can be couriered to the Municipal Hall attention District of Sechelt, 2nd Floor, 5797 Cowrie Street, Sechelt, BC, V0N 3A0.   Detach the bottom portion of your property tax notice and sign the home owner grant, if applicable.

By Mail
 Detach the bottom portion of your Property Tax Notice and properly complete and sign the Home Owner Grant if eligible. Please make cheques payable to District of Sechelt. Mail your payment attention District of Sechelt, PO Box 129, Sechelt, BC  V0N 3A0.

Payment must be received in the Finance Department at the Municipal Hall on or before midnight on Tuesday July 2, 2019 to avoid a late payment penalty.  Unpaid 2019 taxes (including unclaimed Home Owner Grants) are subject to a penalty of 5% after July 2nd, 2019. An additional 5% penalty for any current unpaid balances after August 31, 2019. Penalties are statutory. Municipal Staff do not have the authority to waive or reverse them in accordance with sections 233 and 234 of the Community Charter.

The District of Sechelt accepts post-dated cheques. Sechelt does not issue receipts for mailed in payments unless specifically requested, your canceled cheque (once processed by your banking institution) may act as a receipt if necessary.

What Payment Methods are accepted? 


  • Cheque, Cash, and Debit Card are accepted
  • Post-Dated Cheques are accepted    
  • You can pay your taxes with a cheque post-dated to the due date.  This allows District staff time to check your payment and Home Owner Grant, if applicable, and to contact you prior to the due date if there are any problems or questions. We deposit your post-dated payment to the bank on the cheque date.
