Recycling Centres

Due to the unprecedented flooding and disruption to transportation, Recycle BC has informed the District and depot operators throughout BC that they will be temporarily suspending collection of glass and Styrofoam. Thank you for your help by holding onto these materials until they can be accepted for recycling again. The other depot recycling materials are unaffected at this time.

Reminder: Please ensure your bin is out no later than 8:00 a.m. Waste Management is unable to come back to completed routes due to bins not being out on time.

Sechelt solid waste collection

All garbage materials must be completely contained in garbage bags, no loose garbage, loose tissues, or personnel hygiene products will be picked up.

The 2021 Sechelt collection calendar can be viewed here.

Recycling is picked up bi-weekly on Mondays. Please use the collections waste wizard below to view the schedule in your area. For a list of what can go in your blue recycling bin look it up in the waste wizard below or go to the recycle bc website for general recycling information.

No glass in any curb side blue box recycling in Sechelt –all glass must go to depots either Salish Soils or Gibsons recycling depot.

Please do not use plastic bags for the over flow of recycling.
These will damage the machinery in the recycling trucks. Over flow items can be put out in cardboard boxes, tote bins that are easy for the drivers to dump into the truck, or bundled with non-plastic twine

Extra recycling can be put out with your bin in a second clean bin or a cardboard box.

The recycling collection zone map can be found here.

Garbage is picked up weekly on either Tuesdays or Fridays depending on your neighborhood.  Put your bin out before 8 am. See the schedule below for additional information.

  • Garbage is limited to one standard (80l) garbage bin per household, no heavier than 20kgs (44lbs)
  • Extra cans / bags will require garbage tags -  purchased from the municipal office for $4.00 each
  • Make sure the tag is easily visible on the bag or can

Secure all waste so it is not an attractant to wildlife. Learn more about reducing wildlife and human interactions on our wildlife page.

Note: there is no waste pick up on Christmas day but all other holidays continue with the usual schedule.
