BC Building Code changes coming May 1

Changes are coming to the BC Building Code. The Minister for Housing has signed an order requiring the following changes take place beginning May 1, 2023:
- Part 9 buildings will need to meet prescriptive requirements that will be equivalent to Step 3 of the Energy Step Code for buildings.
- Municipalities can opt in to carbon reductions measures similar to the Energy Step Code's adoption and implementation.
- The performance-based modelling that is currently permitted under Step 1 of the Energy Step Code...
New Playground Opens at Hackett Park

It is out with the old and in with the new at the Hackett Park playground. The equipment has been replaced with new equipment designed specifically for the park, thanks to a $300,000 grant from the Province’s Tourism Dependent Community Fund.
The playground features a new landscape design and different play equipment with a layer of non-toxic engineered wood fibre on the ground. Features include an “oodle swing” that can accommodate multiple kids at a time, swoosh slide, separate set of swings...

The District of Sechelt is inviting artists to apply for upcoming opportunities to showcase their artwork in the community. The first opportunity is for inclusion in the 2023 Artist Roster – this is a shortlist of artists that the municipality will call on as various art projects come up throughout the year.
