September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a federal holiday created in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action #80. The District of Sechelt encourages all residents to take the time to learn about the history of residential schools in Canada, to reflect upon the legacy of these institutions, and to honour the children who were taken from their families.

To learn more about Truth and Reconciliation, or to participate in the annual virtual events, visit the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation website. The shíshálh Nation will host a virtual ceremony at 11am, Thursday Sept. 30, 2021 via their Facebook page
