The community brand identifies Sechelt. A brand is not a logo but a statement of who we are and what we value. A brand is what people say about us and it is the emotional connection people have with this place. 

The Sechelt brand is not like any other community brand. It distinguishes us from other communities and it is our unique selling point - our showcase.

This brand creates a more consistent and coordinated approach with all organizations working toward economic development initiatives so that the brand is not only reflected and represented through Sechelt, but also through citizens, external organizations, and local businesses. We are all paddling in the same direction.

Where did this brand come from?

This brand started in the fall of 2018 with a graffiti wall project. Posters of walls were placed all over Sechelt and people were asked to comment on what they love about Sechelt. The response was overwhelming and the comments were very diverse however there were some common themes. Sechelt is more than just nice scenery; we are a community of the arts, and food, and amazing recreation with a strong love of nature and a respect for individuality.

Lead by a marketing professional with Pear Advertising and Design, a group of citizens, business owners and locals with experience in branding and marketing formed the Sechelt Community Brand Task Force. They started with all of the information from the graffiti walls as well as the Official Community Plan and the Integrated Community Sustainability Plan. They worked together for 5 months to develop the Sechelt brand. These task force members met with colleagues, friends and neighbours through the process to test out the ideas and visions along the way. In the end, they produced a brand album that best represents the community. 

Licensing the Brand

The Community Brand Mark and related Brand Assets are in the process of being protected under the copyright laws of Canada and owned by the District of Sechelt. Use of the Sechelt Community Brand Assets (excluding the Municipal Brand Mark) is permitted in various contexts.

Local businesses and non-profits are encouraged to use the brand logo and follow the brand album in their communications materials as well as event planning and even construction. In commercial, for-profit use, a licensing agreement with the District is required for all branded merchandise and communication materials. Applications are considered on a case-by case basis. There is no fee for their use. Unauthorized, for-profit use of the Brand Assets is strictly prohibited.

A new application must be submitted if additional stock is to be produced.
