Construction of Retaining Walls or Structures

Building permits are required for the construction of large retaining walls or structures. Section 19 of District of Sechelt Building Bylaw No. 409 states that for the construction of retaining walls higher than 1.2 m (3.9 ft):

A registered professional shall undertake the design and conduct field reviews of the construction of a retaining structure greater than 1.2 meters in height. Sealed copies of the design plan and field review reports prepared by the registered professional for all retaining structures greater than 1.2 meters in height, as well as letters of assurance in the form of Schedules B and C-B referred to in Section 2.2.7 of Part 2 of the 2006 BC Building Code shall be submitted to a building official prior to acceptance of the works.
