Type 2: Self-Contained Suite on Principal Resident Property
Rent up to two fully self-contained suites on a property where the owner lives and is present during guest stays.
A Type 2 STR is a fully self-contained separate suite on the principal residence property. This may be a basement suite, garden suite, carriage house or other legal self-contained dwelling unit. The owner/long-term renter lives on the property and is present during guest stays. Proof of owner’s authorization is required if a long-term tenant is the STR operator.

- other legal self-contained dwelling unit.
NOTE: There is a limit of two STR suites per property, depending on applicable zoning.

Timeline
If you wish to obtain a business licence for a Type 2 STR in the current year, you must submit a complete application no later than July 31st of that same year.
Cost
One-time application fee of $200
Short-term rental business licence fee of $900/ year.

Once your application is approved, please pay the $900 annual STR business licence fee before you may operate.
