Type 2: Self-Contained Suite on Principal Resident Property
Rent up to two fully self-contained suites on a property where the owner lives and is present during guest stays.
A Type 2 STR is a fully self-contained separate suite on the principal residence property. This may be a basement suite, garden suite, carriage house or other legal self-contained dwelling unit. The owner/long-term renter lives on the property and is present during guest stays. Proof of owner’s authorization is required if a long-term tenant is the STR operator.

- Carriage house
- other legal self-contained dwelling unit.
NOTE: There is a limit of two STR suites per property. The property will require a Temporary Use Permit (TUP) if there are more than two STR accessory units and will pay an $1800 TUP application fee rather than the Type 2 application fee. If considered a Type 3, this type of rental will not be restricted to the finite number of approved secondary residence (Type 3) rentals.

Short-term rental business licence fee of $900/ year.

- Do you have more than two suites that you would like to rent out? Please fill out a Temporary Use Permit and submit the $1800 application fee.
- Are you a long-term renter looking to rent out rooms? If so, you will also need to complete an Owner Consent form.
- Is your home part of a Strata? If so, please fill out the Strata Consent form.
Once your application is approved, please pay the $900 annual STR business licence fee.
