2025 Tax Information
Plan ahead as postal service and financial institution practices affect when funds are delivered to the District and may result in a penalty.
Mail that is lost or delayed by a delivery service will be subject to penalty.
Tax Notices will be mailed out end of May 2025 and are not available until end of May 2025. You can view your notice online through our portal.
Please note that we are currently experiencing a high volume of property tax enquiries, which may result in delays in responding to calls and emails.
- Deferment does not cover utilities example: (Garbage Utility User Fee or Sewer Residential Utility Fee). Unpaid utilities are subject to penalty if not paid by property tax due date.
- The Home owner grant program is administered by the Province of BC. The Taxpayer must directly apply for the homeowner grant each year. Only one grant can be claimed for a property each year. Find out when and how to apply for the homeowner grant. You may also be able to apply for a retroactive grant if you qualified last year but didn't apply. The District of Sechelt is not responsible for applying for the home owner grant on behalf of tax payers.

- Mailing Address Changes: Must be done by the property owner via BC Assessment.
- Folio Numbers can be found via BC Assessment.
- Penalties: Penalties are Statutory. Municipal Staff do not have the authority to waive or reverse them. Any current outstanding balance (including unclaimed Homeowner Grants and utilities if you are deferred) on July 3, 2025 will be charged a 5% penalty. An additional 5% penalty will be charged on any current outstanding balance on September 3, 2025. The District of Sechelt is mandated to follow the British Columbia Community Charter - Municipal Tax Regulation. The 10% penalty is set by this charter.
