Request a Street Tree Program

The District of Sechelt is working to enhance our urban forest and to meet the goals set in our Urban Forest Plan. The Request a Street Tree program invites Sechelt residents to apply to have a free street tree planted on the road allowance in front of their property.

How the program works

Complete an online application.

Parks staff will inspect the site in late summer, or early fall to see if there is enough space to plant a tree on the road allowance in front of your property.  Choices may be restricted due to height limitations.  Trees will be planted in the dormant season, late fall to early spring.

The Street Tree Brochure contains tree location requirements.

Who cares for the tree?
Our Parks Team will plant the tree but the homeowner will be committing to watering the tree for the duration of the establishment time of 5 years and continuing during the hot summer months in future years.
Which species of tree can be planted?

Please see the table below to view the specie options.

If there is a specific species of tree you would like planted, please tell us. The Parks Arborist will assess the planting site and determine if it is appropriate for your requested species. If it isn’t, we can choose a better suited tree for the conditions. Our final decisions are based on experience and past success while also taking into account climate change and our urban forest management plan. Also, it should be noted that tree selection will be determined by nursery stock availability. Not all trees are available at all times.
