Tree Care and Removals
The District of Sechelt considers it in the public interest to protect the natural environment and to provide for the preservation of trees. Consider if the trees you wish to trim, cut down or remove are on District property or private property.
Trees on District of Sechelt Property
If there is a tree, on our property, that you feel requires attention please complete an Online Service Request. Our Parks Team will review the request and determine the next steps.
The District of Sechelt Parks Team follow direction from our Tree Limbing and Cutting Policy when responding to requests to limb or remove trees from District of Sechelt Property.
District of Sechelt Parks
The Parks Tree Protection Bylaw No. 436, 2005 applies to any public land designated or considered as a park by the District of Sechelt. No person shall cut, cause, permit or allow the cutting or pruning of a tree within a park.
Trees on Private Property
The Environmental Management and Protection Bylaw No. 484, 2009 prohibits the cutting or removal of trees with some exemptions. For more information please read our Guide to Protecting Trees Brochure.
Tree Cutting Permits
You will require a Tree Cutting Permit if you are planning to cut, prune, top or remove Protected Trees. For information regarding tree cutting permits please visit our Tree Cutting Permit Page.
