BC Building Code changes coming May 1
Changes are coming to the BC Building Code. The Minister for Housing has signed an order requiring the following changes take place beginning May 1, 2023:
- Part 9 buildings will need to meet prescriptive requirements that will be equivalent to Step 3 of the Energy Step Code for buildings.
- Municipalities can opt in to carbon reductions measures similar to the Energy Step Code's adoption and implementation.
- The performance-based modelling that is currently permitted under Step 1 of the Energy Step Code may be adopted through a Municipal bylaw.
Full adoption of the 2022 BC Building Code will occur later in 2023.
