Clear Snow From Catch Basins
PREPARE FOR POOLING WATER AND FLOODING
With rain forecasted this weekend and melting snow, increased water runoff is expected. Residents are asked to help prepare for and prevent pooling water that could lead to flooding.
The District of Sechelt is calling on residents to help prevent flooding by doing the following:
- Clear snow and debris around catch basins/storm drains
- Report larger obstructions that would prevent water from getting to a catch basin
How to find a catch basin if it's covered in snow?
- Look at the lower points of the road, where water would flow to. Often this is near an intersection.
- Head over to the Sechelt GIS website. Under the infrastructure tab, select Storm and Catch Basins (see screenshot below)
This is a community effort to help the water from snowmelt and rainfall to get to where it needs to go, whether that be a ditch or catch basin. Residents can expect pooling water and big puddles. Please drive carefully.
