Community Safety Group Update
Highlights from the March meeting of the Community Wellness and Safety Technical Working Group include:
Terms of Reference
The main change was to ensure meetings more casual (rather than procedural like a council meeting) atmosphere that flows well, not losing accountability or responsibility.
Community Safety Coordinator position
Review the job description, ensure actioning community safety items even though the position is part time. Role to include development of a workplan.
Current Encampment
Working with current residents of the encampment to get them moved to a safe space as nearby underground servicing work will be taking place shortly. Maintain focus on identifying longer-term solutions.
Chamber Safety Audit
Staff have received a community safety audit from the Sunshine Coast Chamber of Commerce and has asked the Group for input. Some recommendations already align with DOS practices, while some are more aligned with a larger jurisdiction/government. Some items may stray outside of DOS bylaws and against the charter.
