Council Endorses Recommendations and Commits to Act

At a special closed meeting July 19, 2024, Council voted in favour to endorse and release six recommendations from their internal Governance Audit.

Topics of the six recommendations include:

1. Governance Audit be approved by Council
2. A public apology from the Mayor
3. Approach to Governance
4. Strategic Priorities
5. Meeting Procedures
6. Correspondence

The overall goal of the Governance Audit is to make improvements that would ultimately benefit and service Sechelt citizens. This includes reestablishing respectful dialogue both in and outside of council chambers and the District office, and to build relationships which reflect a high standard of behaviour.

Timeline

February 2024 – District requests a governance audit by an outside firm.

June 2024  – Council votes to release the executive summary of the governance audit.
