Mayor bringing solutions to Provincial Ministers
Sechelt Mayor John Henderson will lead a group of elected officials to the Legislature in Victoria during the week of October 23rd to meet with Provincial government ministers regarding actions that are needed urgently.
“We are bringing actionable solutions and looking to the Provincial Government to endorse them or to identify and agree to act on even better solutions,” says Mayor Henderson. “The Sunshine Coast faces serious challenges including transportation woes, a lack of adequate drinking water supply, and the very real and growing community safety concerns of our residents. It’s time for action and most importantly, results.”
Mayor Ron Woznow of Powell River along with various elected officials from the District of Sechelt will attend the meetings that are being arranged.
”I look forward to sharing with Rob Fleming, the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, the importance of reliable ferry service on the Sunshine Coast,” says Mayor Woznow. “I also plan to offer a solution to him and to BC Ferries about how Powell River, Sechelt and Gibsons can assist in training people interested in a career with BC Ferries."
Mayor Henderson will bring forward his solutions for:
- Transportation– ferries and highways
- Drinking water supply
- Community safety concerns
- Housing & homelessness issues
Mayor Henderson anticipates these meetings will produce action from the Province that will assist not only communities on the Sunshine Coast, but other smaller communities who are also dealing with large-scale issues.
