Backyard Burning
To report a wildfire, unattended campfire, or open burning violation call 1 (800) 663-5555 or *5555 on a cell phone.
Anyone found in contravention of an open-burning prohibition may be issued a fine for $1,150, may be required to pay an administrative penalty of up to $10,000 or, if convicted in court, may be fined up to $100,000 and/or sentenced to one year in jail. If the contravention causes or contributes to a wildfire, the person responsible may be ordered to pay all firefighting and associated costs.
Open Air Burning |
Open air burning is not permitted in the District of Sechelt.
District of Sechelt Open Air Burning Bylaw No.486, 2012 regulates campfires, ceremonial fires, bonfires, burning of construction waste, garden refuse, and garbage, land clearing waste and toxic materials. |
Garden Waste |
Burning of garden waste is not permitted in the District of Sechelt.
Residential Green Waste can be dropped off, no charge, to Salish Soils located at 5800 Black Bear Road, Sechelt, BC. They accept residential self-haul loads weighing less than 5 tonnes. |
Land Clearing |
Land clearing burns are not permitted in the District of Sechelt. |
Campfires |
As long as a campfire ban is NOT in effect in Sechelt or the Coastal Fire Centre area, a campfire is allowed within the District and is defined as a fire:
