No Pick Up for Blue Bins Containing No-go Items

Beginning Monday, August 19, recycling bins containing items that are not accepted in Sechelt's blue bin recycling will not be collected. The District continues to have higher contamination rates and is at risk of losing funding by Recycle BC. Please check the Waste Wizard for information.
Items not accepted in your blue bin:
- Glass (this is very dangerous for the workers and system)
- Books
- Soft plastics (plastic bags, overwrap, large clear plastic bags containing recycling etc).
- Styrofoam
- Small...

Council Endorses Recommendations and Commits to Act

At a special closed meeting July 19, 2024, Council voted in favour to endorse and release six recommendations from their internal Governance Audit.
Topics of the six recommendations include:
- Governance Audit be approved by Council
- A public apology from the Mayor
- Approach to Governance
- Strategic Priorities
- Meeting Procedures
- Correspondence

The overall goal of the Governance Audit is to make improvements that would ultimately benefit and service Sechelt citizens....
Full Campfire Ban in Effect

As of noon on Friday, July 12, a full outdoor fire ban will be in place for the Coastal Fire Centre of the province. Find full details from the BC Wildfire Service website here.
This includes:
- campfires
- fires on the beach above AND below the tide line
- fires on public and private property
- chimneas
- fireworks
- backyard fires etc.
Propane and briquette fueled BBQ's are allowed as are propane fired campfire rings with a flame height of 6 inches (15 centimeters) or less.
Stage 2 Water Restrictions Start July 5

Stage 2 moderate water restrictions take effect Friday, July 5.
Regulations are in place to promote water conservation and ensure water supply and treatment systems can meet the large seasonal increase in outdoor water use during the summer.
Watering a lawn with a sprinkler, soaker hose, or micro-spray IS NOT PERMITTED anytime.
