New Mayor and Council Take Office

It is a fresh start in the District of Sechelt as a new Mayor and Council officially took office at their inauguration and meeting Wednesday evening, kicking off the 2026 to 2030 term.

In front of a packed house at the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre, all seven members of Council took the Oath of Office, administered by the Hon. Judge Steven Merrick of the BC Provincial Court.

In his inaugural address, Mayor Dhillon spoke of Council operating from a new foundation built on teamwork, uncompromising ethical standards, upstanding leadership and mutual respect. 

“Residents elected a new council, a positive reset for leadership in the District of Sechelt,” said Mayor Dhillon. “Whether in government, military or other walks, this new team has decades of experience in public service. Our simple responsibility over the next four years is to take this exceptional town and leave it even better than we found it and to consider not only those that live here now, but who will take our place in generations to come.”

Mayor Dhillon was sworn in alongside the following members of Council:

• Desmond Das
•  Darren Inkster
• Tom Lamb
• Anna MacNeil
• Craig Moore
• Ken Whitaker

Council took the opportunity to appoint representation for the following roles:

• Acting Mayor, Anna MacNeil (for the first three months)
• Sunshine Coast Regional District board representatives, Darren Inkster and Ken Whitaker with Mayor Dhillon  as alternate.

Mayor Dhillon said the work of Council has already begun. “Starting tomorrow, as we launch the selection process for our new Chief Administrative Officer, our goal will be to give staff the high-quality vision, clarity and direction needed to execute our shared mission.”
