Sechelt's Urban Forest Plan

“To retain a vast, beautiful and bio diverse forest that connects communities, promotes ecosystem services, and supports the health and wellbeing of our community.”

Three Main Objectives:

1. To provide the District of Sechelt with strategic recommendations for conserving,

preparing and enhancing our urban forests for the future.

2. To educate Sechelt residents about the benefits of urban forests, relevant forestry concerns

and best practices for tree retention.

3. To increase understanding and support for our urban forests through community

Boulevard and Boundary Trees

  • Located on the boulevard in front of private property
  • Owned by the District of Sechelt
  • Responsibility of the District of Sechelt not the property owner
  • Contact The District of Sechelt for issues regarding boulevard trees (604-885-1986)
  • Boulevard Defined:

    Within a road allowance;

    (i) The portion of land between the outside curb of the street and the adjoining property line;

    (ii) on a street or roadway without curbs, the portion of land between the shoulder of the road and the adjoining property line.

  • Located on a property line
  • Responsibility of both property owners on either side of tree
  • Both parties must agree on any decisions to be made that will affect the tree

  • Located on a property line shared by the District of Sechelt
  • Contact the District of Sechelt for issues regarding boundary trees shared with us (604-885-1896)

If you have a concern about these trees, think they need work or think you may share a boundary tree with us, please call (604-885-1986) or submit a service request.

The Parks Arborist will assess the trees and perform any necessary work.

Trees will be pruned for clearance, lines of site, safety, or to mitigate a conflict caused by branches or roots. It should be noted that pruning for aesthetics is not a level that the District can provide.

Undeveloped Right of Ways and Undeveloped Beach Accesses

District of Sechelt undeveloped right of ways are not routinely inspected and our staff will only attend to tree issues on these properties as they are brought to our attention.
