Climate Action

Global climate change and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have reached crisis levels. Human activities related to burning of fossil fuels and changes to the land, water and air have cumulatively surpassed nature’s ability to act as a buffer.

This global emergency necessitates action by all levels of government and has local implications for managing drinking water, stormwater, sea level rise, wildfire, extreme heat or cold weather, and more.

The District recognizes that we need to take action on global climate change. We need to:

Reduce green house gas (GHG) emissions;
Prepare our community to respond and adapt to a new future.

Climate Actions

A variety of municipal plans and studies guide our climate action work, covering topics such as economic, environmental and social/cultural sustainability, complete communities, active transportation, urban forest management, coastal flooding, stormwater and water conservation goals, and development/building standards.

The District also collaborates with neighbouring and senior governments to share, learn and implement effective regional solutions.
