Sechelt Releases Governance Audit and Recommendations
Relationship building, respect and new procedures are highlighted in a set of recommendations from a governance audit initiated by the District of Sechelt.
At their in camera meeting on Wednesday, June 26, Council voted in majority to release the executive summary of the governance audit report with the overall goal of reestablishing respective dialogue both in and outside of council chambers and the District office, and to build relationships which reflect a high standard of behaviour.
The 30-page executive summary lists the roles and responsibilities of Council, the Mayor, senior management, notes internal issues observed by the consultant, and includes a series of recommendations to ultimately improve relationships and governance.
In February 2024, The District requested an audit, conducted by an external firm, to improve relations internally, but ultimately for the benefit and service to the citizens of Sechelt.
