2023 Annual Report Draft

The 2023 Annual Report draft is now available for review!
Each year, Sechelt produces an annual report that provides an overview of the activities completed in 2023 that align with Council's strategic goals. The report includes a message from Mayor and Council, District achievements and financial statements and information.

What goes in your blue recycling bin

Please ensure all items in your blue bin are acceptable. We will be out checking blue bins for items that should not be in there and will be placing an "oops sticker" on your bin and/or may not take it for collection that week. Our recycling loads have too much contamination unfortunately and the District is at risk of fines from Recycle BC.
Please follow these tips to reduce contamination in your recycling:
- No soft plastics like packaging, produce bags, zipper bags etc
- No books
- No hard rigid...
Council Passes 2024 Budget

The District of Sechelt Council passed the 2024 budget on May 8, 2024. The budget includes a 7.71% property tax increase with 4.71% of this going to operations and the remaining 3% to capital reserves. For the average residential property valued at $994,039 that will be a property tax increase of $218. The total tax increase includes 3.69%, or $24 increase to sewer user fees and a 12.5%, or $33 increase to solid waste fees for the average residential property.

Stage 1 Water Restriction in Effect

Sechelt is now on Stage 1 water restrictions. Each year, the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) enacts Stage 1 automatically on May 1st to promote water conservation and ensure water supply and treatment systems can meet the large seasonal increase in outdoor water use during the summer.
Treated water is expensive and precious. Rethinking how we use treated water will help everyone in the long run.
